Talking agriculture with a king

Oslo, March 11, 2015
Read and watch how H.M. King Felipe VI of Spain visited Yara’s stand at the National Congress of Cooperatives of Spain to learn more about our efforts to support sustainable agriculture.

Agri-food cooperatives are important players in the agricultural value chain and strategic partners for Yara. Spain’s “National Congress of Cooperatives”, which is held every four years, is where such long-lasting partnerships are forged. What better platform for Yara Iberian to spread its message: “We have the solutions you need to develop a sustainable agriculture and we are here to support you!”

“This is the first time Yara participated at this congress and I highly appreciated the opportunity to learn more about our customers’ fertilizer needs and the recent developments in the agri-food business,” said Mónica Andrés, the General Manager of Yara Iberian. “Gaining a better understanding of these two elements, will allow Yara to adjust its product offerings accordingly.”

Even H.M. King Felipe VI of Spain, who visited our stand at the Congress, was impressed by how Yara’s innovative solutions allow sustainable agriculture to flourish in Spain. Speaking with Mónica, he was surprised to learn that we have supplied fertilizers to Spanish farmers for more than 100 years!

Other guest speakers at the event in Valencia, included EU commissioner for Agriculture, Phil Hogan. Hogan defined food security as a global challenge and underlined the importance of innovation in ensuring growth and developing new agri-business models.

The need for innovation was also highlighted by Spain’s former Innovation Minister, Cristina Garmendia. Both, Hogan and Garmendia’s messages were very much aligned with Yara’s strategy of focusing on innovative solutions to improve yields. Other topics highlighted at the congress included energy efficiency, gender equality, competitiveness and crop quality.

Yara was one of the main sponsors of the event, which gathered more than 1,000 representatives of various cooperatives from across Spain.
