Environmental performance

In response to climate change, Yara continues to reduce its carbon footprint.
environmental performance

Yara’s total GHG emissions from production plants are currently less than half of the baseline in 2004, adjusting for plants acquired and closed since that time. This is mainly due to good performance of the advanced N2O catalyst technology. Each year Yara’s N2O catalysts stop GHG emissions equal to 12 million tons of CO2 equivalents from Yara’s plants.

This technology is instrumental to Yara’s offering of low-carbon fertilizers, which made it possible for Yara to launch the world’s first carbon footprint certificates for mineral fertilizers in 2010, for products sold in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Using our proven low-carbon fertilizers and best farming practices, the carbon footprint from crop production can be halved or more while maintaining yields.
