Meet our interns

Our interns had a great time during their summer internship program. Read below to know more about our interns and their experiences at Yara.

Julian Cubillos, Business Architect intern

Did you have any "aha!" moments or learn something unexpected during your internship?

It was mind-blowing when we learned about blue and green ammonia, and the other alternatives that Yara is working on to decrease its CO2 emissions.

What was the funniest or most entertaining experience you had while working here?

The most entertaining experience working at Yara was lunchtime. Sharing funny situations, anecdotes, and cultural aspects with interns enriched my summer. After all, being in a program with interns from more than 11 nationalities is an exceptional experience.

If you could give advice to future interns joining our company, what would it be?

Be curious and take risks. You will have the space to innovate and test your ideas in a real-life setting.

What surprised you the most about working at our company?

Despite being a large corporate entity, what surprised me the most was the helpfulness of every employee. Everyone treated each other with respect and warmth. It was truly encouraging to experience such a friendly environment and atmosphere. Every morning, I would wake up excited to come to the office.

Can you share a challenging task or project you worked on and how you overcame it?

Everything was new and different in the beginning and sometimes difficult to grasp. To tackle this challenge, I made it a habit to write down questions that arose throughout the day and seek explanations the next day. Each question was related to different aspects of the project, and I couldn't afford to stay silent if I wanted to gain a deeper understanding.

Did you develop any new skills or gain valuable knowledge during your time with us?

Absolutely! I primarily developed soft skills like communication and collaboration. Additionally, I also acquired technical and functional skills. The diverse tasks within the team exposed me to various processes and highlighted the interdependencies between departments.

Kai Nergård Izumi, IT Analyst intern

If you could describe your internship experience in one word, what would it be and why?

Eventful! From field trips to the social activities with the other interns to workshops, lunch, dinners, to even the Pride event. There were always things to do, and never a dull moment.

What surprised you the most about working at our company?

The most surprising thing would be the input I could bring to the project. They gave me room to bring my perspective and produce different solutions. They let me present something that could be seen as useful to help the company in achieving its goal.

Did you develop any new skills or gain valuable knowledge during your time with us?

To both points, absolutely! I got to develop my analytical skills from my university studies, but even my mathematical and social skills that I developed outside my studies.

I haven’t considered before, a work-life balance. Yara underlined that we should not spend too much time in the office outside of our work hours. To be able to make sure to take breaks, to not think about work for a period helps me not only relax, but it provides much better work results.
