Ambition in Action: Improving production in Pilbara

When the Yara Pilbara Nitrates team discovered the correlation for production limitations, Process Engineer, Aditi Malik was determined to find the root cause.  

Springing into action, Aditi conducted in-depth studies, analyses, and bench-testing with a cross-functional team. She even collaborated with Yara’s plant in Köping, Sweden to better understand their performance.

Inspired by Yara’s values, Aditi shared, “Yara’s values deeply resonate with me. As a Process Engineer, I thrive on problem-solving and innovation. I saw an opportunity to optimize operations and didn't give up without finding a solution.” 

By stepping up to the challenge, the team in Pilbara was able to implement significant improvements in the production rate of technical ammonium nitrates (TAN), while reducing 30% in steam and power consumption. This work has been impactful by driving more sustainable practices while also increasing overall cost efficiency.

Applauding the team on the remarkable display of Yara’s values to create impact with minimal investment, Yara’s CEO, Svein Tore Holsether stressed, “What is striking are the results. Really, this is true collaboration… this is the Yara spirit.” 

Highlighting how imperative effective collaboration was, Aditi said, “This achievement would not have been possible without the collective effort and support of our dedicated team and collaboration with Yara’s Köping Plant and Orica. Everyone was on board!”
