Clean ammonia - A fuel for the future
Ammonia, which does not emit CO2 when burned, is expected to become a next-generation fuel as it contains properties ideally suited for the hydrogen economy. Ammonia does not require cooling to extreme temperatures, and has a higher energy density than liquid hydrogen, making it more efficient to transport and store. Furthermore, producing ammonia with renewable energy results in zero or minimal greenhouse gas emissions.

World’s first ship-to-ship ammonia transfers at anchorage completed
At Port Dampier, Yara Clean Ammonia, Pilbara Ports Authority, and GCMD successfully completed the first-ever ship-to-ship ammonia transfers. A total of 4,000 cubic meters of ammonia was safely transferred, paving the way for future clean ammonia bunkering operations.
Yara's renewable hydrogen plant in Norway
At our 24 MW hydrogen plant at Herøya, Norway, Yara Clean Ammonia is producing renewable hydrogen and ammonia.
Yara Clean Ammonia
Building on its long experience and leading position within logistics, optimization and trade, Yara has now established Yara Clean Ammonia (YCA) as a separate unit and stated that an IPO will be evaluated.
The existing strong midstream position of YCA creates a pole position for development of new downstream market segments and an excellent basis for development of the Upstream ownership positions in competitive clean ammonia projects, like through the joint venture with Enbridge that was recently announced. The new clean ammonia segments being developed will fundamentally speed up the growth of the ammonia business. Those new segments are for shipping fuel, power production, ammonia as hydrogen carrier and clean fertilizer for food segments. YCA will contribute to the development of the first three segments, while Yara will be responsible for development of the fourth.
