Our agronomists are in the field every day offering expert advice and precision farming digital tools to farmers all over Europe, regardless of the production system. Our intimate farmer connectivity enables us to better understand and meet the unique needs of farmers. Our ambition is to have around 20% of farmland in Europe connected to our digital tools.

Reducing production emissions

Yara is working to reduce the carbon footprint of fertilizers during production. We first started doing this by using a best available technology (BAT) catalytic process and are now reducing the footprint further by making fertilizers produced using renewable or low-carbon ammonia, which in turn also lowers the footprint of crops and food.

Reducing in-field emissions

Yara is also working to reduce the carbon footprint of fertilizers in the field by helping farmers adopt the best solutions and practices. European farmers can improve nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) by 10% by choosing the right mineral fertilizer (nitrate-based) and by another 10% by using precision and digital farming tools.

Science-based research

Yara is a science-based company. We are continuously expanding our reach and offerings, backed by world-class crop nutrition research and field trials conducted at Yara’s Hanninghof research center in Dülmen, Germany, and our other R&D centers in Europe. We are also enabling the hydrogen economy through low-carbon and renewable ammonia.

Reducing our carbon footprint

  • Yara is well-positioned to meet the EU target for cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 55% by 2030. We’ve already reduced our total scope 1 and 2* GHG emissions globally by about 45% and in Europe by about 55% since 2005.
  • Our goal is to reduce our global emissions by a total of around 60% by 2030, and we aim to be climate neutral by 2050.

*Scope 1: direct GHG emissions; Scope 2:  indirect emissions from purchased electricity

Yara is the market leader in Europe, supported by an unrivaled production system and supply chain network
